Learning Public Speaking with a TVRI Presenter at Global Bridge Academy

Learning public speaking is one of the valuable lessons students at Global Bridge Academy (GBA) gain while taking part in the program. Interestingly, this learning process isn't limited to theory alone it's directly guided by a TVRI presenter named Kak Sesko. With more than ten years of experience in the world of television broadcasting, Kak Sesko shares his knowledge and experience directly with the students, allowing them to learn public speaking techniques from someone who is truly competent in the field. Beryl, one of the GBA Batch 3 students, had the opportunity to join the public speaking class with Kak Sesko in person. "During this activity, I was taught various correct public speaking techniques as well as common mistakes people make, ranging from how to read an article from Google with the intonation of a news anchor, to how to explain one's own strengths and weaknesses in front of friends. At first, I thought delivering news on television was easy, since I had only ever watched other people do it. However, after being taught directly by Kak Sesko, I realized there are actually many things to pay attention to in order to sound accurate and convincing. This is what made the activity feel both exciting and challenging, as I was required to deepen my understanding of the text being read so that the audience could really feel immersed, as if they were watching an actual news broadcast on television. Throughout the activity, the biggest challenge I faced was staying focused on the material being explained, since there were plenty of distractions that could pull my attention away, such as chatting with friends or playing on my phone. This is where I learned the importance of full concentration in order to properly understand each part of the material. Overall, I found this activity extremely beneficial, as it helped me more easily distinguish between correct and incorrect public speaking techniques. This experience also had a positive impact on my personal development, particularly in boosting my confidence when speaking in front of many people both in everyday life and when performing like a presenter, such as Kak Sesko."
