GBX Day Seven: Exploring Campus Life and Enjoying the Beauty of Fukuoka

Before we knew it, the Global Bridge Academy Xchange (GBX) programme had reached its seventh day. Today presented a special opportunity for the participants to explore Kyushu University, one of Japan’s most renowned universities, whilst getting to know their new academic environment. The university’s spacious, lush, clean and well-organised campus left a lasting impression on the participants, particularly on one GBX participant who dreams of continuing their studies there. They toured the various lecture buildings and visited the enormous four-storey library. The experience was made even more complete by enjoying lunch in the campus canteen, which offered a variety of delicious dishes at relatively affordable prices. Through this visit, the participants not only witnessed the beauty of the campus but also gained a fresh insight into student life in Japan. The adventure continued with a chance to enjoy Fukuoka’s natural beauty, including a visit to the Sakurai Futamigaura coastal area, famous for its two large rocks in the middle of the sea and its white torii gate. The beautiful coastal scenery, particularly at sunset, provided the perfect backdrop for taking lots of photos with friends. The moment felt all the more special as it was one of the final activities in the GBX itinerary. Before returning to the hotel, the participants took the time to shop for souvenirs at Don Quijote, a shop popular amongst tourists for its wide range of traditional Japanese products. The excitement of shopping was heightened as they took advantage of the tax-free facilities available to eligible tourists, allowing them to bring home a variety of gifts for family and loved ones. The seventh day drew to a close with a group dinner before all the participants returned to the hotel to pack and prepare for their return journey the following day via Fukuoka Airport. There was a sense of joy at having gained so many new experiences, coupled with a touch of sadness that the journey which had felt so short was about to end. From exploring the campus of their dreams to enjoying the sunset on the beach and hunting for souvenirs, every activity became part of the precious memories made whilst in Japan. GBX was not merely a trip to the Land of the Cherry Blossoms, but a journey to learn, grow, forge friendships and see the world from a broader perspective.
