From the Classroom to Practice: The Experience of a GBA Batch 2 Student in Organising a Personal Finance Workshop

On Sunday, 21 June 2026, Hanif, a student from Global Bridge Academy’s Batch 2, had the opportunity to organise a Personal Finance Workshop entitled “Level Up Your Financial Mindset” as part of a practical assignment for his Event Management course. The idea for this workshop arose from his interest in the world of finance and his awareness of the high level of public interest in personal financial literacy today. Furthermore, his personal experience of having struggled to manage his finances and often overspending was a key motivation behind organising this event. Through this workshop, Hanif hopes to share his insights and encourage the wider public to manage their finances more wisely from an early age. During the preparation process, the biggest challenge Hanif faced as the workshop organiser actually came from the marketing side, given that marketing is not an area in which Hanif is particularly proficient. However, from this experience, Hanif learnt one important lesson: often, we are actually capable of doing something, but we simply haven’t plucked up the courage or are still hesitant to get started. The lack of self-confidence that had initially made Hanif reluctant to run this workshop turned out not to be as daunting as he had imagined once he actually went ahead with it. Overall, this experience was invaluable as it not only honed his theoretical understanding but also provided hands-on practical training, given that not everything can be fully grasped through conceptual explanations alone. As well as gaining experience, Hanif also received a commission from organising this workshop, which was an added bonus from the entire process he had undertaken.
