Boundless Creativity: Mulan Revitalizes Sashiko Traditions with Upcycled Fabric at GBA Workshop
Mulan, a talented student at Global Bridge Academy, recently successfully organized a workshop titled "Sashiko Mini Tote Bag Trove" as part of her Event Management course assignment. Driven by a desire to provide a practical learning session that yields a tangible product, Mulan invited participants to upcycle fabric scraps into aesthetic tote bags using Sashiko, a traditional Japanese embroidery technique. The workshop garnered significant interest due to its uniqueness, offering a rare experience that is hard to find elsewhere. By focusing on hands on experience, participants were highly enthusiastic so much so that many requested additional time, fully immersed in the creative process of stitching each pattern until their masterpieces were ready to take home. Through this initiative, Mulan proved that academic assignments can serve as a bridge to sharpen business skills and unlock new entrepreneurial opportunities. Despite facing challenges in time management due to the high volume of participants, Mulan viewed this as positive validation that practical workshop concepts with concise yet high quality material are in high demand. For her, the experience of organizing this event provided invaluable lessons in cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset and on-field execution skills. In line with the spirit of the GBA curriculum, the success of this Sashiko workshop is clear evidence of how students can create social impact while building a strong professional portfolio in the creative industry.
